The Royal Melbourne is one of Victoria's largest hospitals providing a comprehensive range of health services including acute, sub-acute, general, and specialist medical services throughout inpatient and community-based facilities. We are also a proud part of the world-renowned Melbourne Biomedical Precinct, working in collaboration to advance research for continuous improvement of clinical care.
The purpose of this role is to work within Anatomical Pathology to provide support to all areas of the laboratory. The main duties of this role will encompass the provision of technical and administrative expertise in the areas which include Histology - Routine and Special, Cytology, Anatomical Pathology Administration and Mortuary particularly deceased patient management.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage deceased patient records and laboratory specimen disposal, including chemical and waste management.
* Monitor laboratory temperature control and maintain laboratory chemicals and stock.
* Handle slide/block file management, including receiving and sending out slides/blocks.
* Prepare reports, select slides for meetings, and archive laboratory materials as needed.
* Perform additional errands and tasks as requested.
About You
* Relevant TAFE or tertiary qualification (Certificate, diploma, degree) in health sciences or related fields.
* Laboratory experience preferred but not essential, with preference for mortuary duties experience.
* Applicants with funeral industry experience are encouraged to apply.
* Provide technical and administrative support to the Anatomical Pathology department after training.
* Available to participate in staff meetings and education where appropriate.

Victorian Department of Health has endorsed the initiative to restructure existing public pathology by bringing together laboratories into pathology networks operating under a lead health service.
Pathology services from the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, the Royal Women's Hospital and the Royal Children's Hospital will transition to a single pathology service. This creates an exciting opportunity to strengthen the scope, scale and reach of pathology services across the Parkville precinct to benefit all Victorians.
