TasNetworks is seeking a highly capable Tax and Treasury Accountant to manage the organisation's back-office treasury and tax accounting functions. This role plays a critical part in ensuring tax compliance, effective cash management, and high-quality financial reporting that supports the organisation's strategic objectives.
You will be responsible for preparing taxation returns, managing daily banking and treasury settlement activities, and providing expert tax advice across the business. As a senior member of the finance team, you will also provide leadership and support to ensure the delivery of effective, efficient, and compliant accounting services.
Tax Governance and Compliance
* Maintain TasNetworks' tax policies, governance framework, and internal controls
* Provide education, guidance, and advice to the business on taxation matters, including the application of novated lease arrangements
* Prepare and oversee all tax-related journals, Business Activity Statements (BAS), tax instalments, and taxation returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance
* Raise tax-related month-end and year-end adjustments through SAP and maintain all supporting reconciliations
Treasury and Cash Management
* Undertake transactional banking and cash settlement processes, including:
* Liaising with key stakeholders to secure accurate cash flow inputs and calculate daily cash requirements
* Preparing daily investment, borrowing, and banking instructions and coordinating settlements
* Working collaboratively with the Corporate Finance team to support daily treasury settlements with TasCorp
About you
To be successful in this role, you will bring a strong blend of technical expertise, commercial acumen, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Essential Requirements
* Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Business, or a related discipline, with CA or CPA membership
* Sound knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), Australian Accounting Standards, and the Income Tax Assessment Act
* Experience using ERP systems (preferably SAP), with strong skills in Excel and Power BI
* Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex accounting and taxation concepts into clear, practical advice for stakeholders
* Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities
* Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving capabilities
* Proven experience managing internal and external stakeholders, including the Australian Tax Office, State Revenue Offices, and external consultants
* Confidence in advising and influencing non-finance stakeholders
* High level of business acumen and strong interpersonal skills
* Ability to demonstrate the capacity to perform the inherent requirements of the role
