The Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior AWS Cloud Architect to design, implement, and manage enterprise-scale cloud infrastructure using AWS best practices. In this role, you will support a national security program with a global technology partner. Your expertise will help shape and deliver secure, scalable, and resilient AWS environments that underpin mission‑critical operations.
As a Senior AWS Cloud Architect, you will provide technical leadership, collaborate with cross‑functional teams, and drive the adoption of automation, governance, and security frameworks across multi‑account AWS environments.
* Contract: 12 months, with possible extensions

Key Responsibilities
* Design and implement secure, scalable, and resilient multi‑account AWS environments using AWS Control Tower.
* Architect landing zones to establish foundational security, compliance, and operational baselines.
* Define account structure, organisational units (OUs), and account provisioning strategies.
* Develop cloud migration strategies and modernisation roadmaps for legacy applications.
* Design and implement Service Control Policies (SCPs) to enforce security controls and compliance requirements.
* Establish preventive and detective guardrails using AWS Control Tower and AWS Config.
* Define and enforce tagging strategies, cost allocation, and resource naming conventions.
* Develop Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using CloudFormation or AWS CDK.
* Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure deployment and configuration management.
* Automate account provisioning, baseline configuration, and compliance remediation.
* Implement centralised logging and monitoring using CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and Security Hub.
* Design identity and access management strategies using AWS IAM, SSO, and directory services.
* Establish network architecture including VPCs, Transit Gateway, and hybrid connectivity.
* Lead incident response and troubleshooting efforts for complex infrastructure issues.
* Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams.
* Collaborate with security, DevOps, and application teams to align cloud strategies.
* Document architectural decisions, best practices, and standard operating procedures.
* Conduct architecture reviews and provide recommendations for optimisation.
What You'll Need
* Experience working with AWS cloud environments and a passion for designing secure, scalable solutions.
* Familiarity with AWS Control Tower, Service Control Policies, and Infrastructure as Code tools (CloudFormation or AWS CDK) is helpful.
* Hands‑on experience with core AWS services (such as EC2, VPC, S3, IAM, RDS, Lambda, ECS/EKS) and automation (Python, Bash, or PowerShell) is a plus.
* Exposure to CI/CD tools and containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, ECS, EKS) is valued.
* Ability to collaborate with cross‑functional teams and communicate technical concepts clearly.
* A proactive approach to problem‑solving and a willingness to learn and adapt.
* AWS Certified Solutions Architect (or working towards certification).
* Experience with cloud migration, modernisation, or multi‑account AWS organisations is beneficial.
* Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Security Clearance Requirement
Due to the nature of this role, applicants must be Australian Citizens with an NV2 security clearance or above.
