Ophthalmologist – Visiting Medical Officer (VMO)

Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and committed Ophthalmologist to work as a Visiting Medical Officer in the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD). The role is primarily based at Shellharbour Hospital, providing elective surgical care, medical retina, oculoplastic, glaucoma, ROP screening and ophthalmology emergencies. The successful candidate will sit on a 1:5 on-call roster, including weekends, and will participate actively in on-call duties across the Illawarra Hospital Group.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform elective eye surgery on an all-day operating list once a month.
• Consult on cases in medical retina, oculoplastic, glaucoma, ROP screening and emergencies.
• Participate in expert patient assessment and on-call services across the district.
• Attend periodic training and audit reviews as required by the district.

Essential Requirements
• FRANZCO credential with experience in general ophthalmology
• Exposure to medical retina, oculoplastic, glaucoma, ROP screening and ophthalmology emergencies
• Eligible for Category A vaccination requirements
• Working With Children Check (WWCC)
• Current AHPRA registration
• Valid NSW driver's licence
