Your New Role
Due to restructure, a newly created role of Financial Controller has been created to uplift the finance function, getting the CFO out of the weeds, but also to build succession planning for the future. As Financial Controller, you will effectively be responsible for the function, from AP, AR, Payroll, to audits, tax, and compliances, whilst also driving budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management (treasury). Featuring a co-sourced accounting model, you'll have support both internally and through outsourced accountants. As the 2IC to the CFO, you'll directly support and caretakes the CFO role as required as part of your continued development.
Critical to your role is the smooth running of the finance function, providing timely and accurate reporting, updates on key projects and milestones (and related payments), ensuring payroll is flawless, and ensuring all ATO lodgments are spot on. More than just keeping things ticking over and ensuring suitable financial controls are working, you'll be relied up to explain variances, identify trends, and manage cash positions. One of your first major projects will be to drive simplification of the group's MS Excel cash flow forecast model (it's a beast of ~60 sheets that needs to be tamed).
Your Profile
Whether this would be your first financial controller role or 2nd/3rd, we want to make sure you are hands on given the small size of the finance team yet get the big picture where we can see you growing into a junior CFO in a 3-4 year period of time. It is likely you've had some leadership experience, and certainly have demonstrated experience in an Australian Company understanding complex compliances required by ASIC and the ATO. Experience in project related industries such as manufacturing, construction, or property would be highly regarded but not essential. You will absolutely have a CA/CPA qualification and a minimum of 5+ years post graduate experience for consideration. Experience working in Xero is a plus, along with proficiency in MS Excel, and any ability to automate tasks would be handy.
