Overview
We are looking for an experienced dispenser with management experience to co-ordinate and lead our team of 7 dispensary staff and support the delivery of an excellent and profitable service to our dispensing patients.
The post holder is considered part of the management team, will work hands-on as a dispenser but have dedicated management time, and support from the Practice leadership team.
Main duties of the job
Ensure staff are competent and safe to practice.
Ensure dispensary practices are safe and in line with Standard Operating Procedures and current clinical guidelines.
Ensure policies and procedures are up to date and available.
Work with colleagues from the 7 Practice team and partner organisations to deliver safe and sustainable service.
Ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription and whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, or about the dose or labelling instructions to check with the authorising doctor or duty doctor.
Take prompt action in response to any drug alert bulletins that may be received from time to time.
Ensure that refrigerated items are stored at the appropriate temperature and maintain a temperature control record/logbook.
HR aspects
Manage the individual needs of a team of 7 dispensers.
Devise, communicate and review staff shift rotas, building in annual leave requests.
Support the team with supervision sessions, training and mentoring as required.
Ensure the post-holder and dispensary team are compliant with all mandatory training programmes, including fire safety, Health and Safety, infection control and basic life support.

Bugbrooke Medical Practice is a rural practice caring for over 10,750 patients.
A Training and dispensing practice, currently dispensing to over 3,500 patients.
4 GP Partners & salaried GPs supported by a team of ANP, Nurses and HCA's in addition to a well established Clinical Pharmacy team.
A further AR team of physio therapists, social prescriber and dietician.
Job responsibilities
To ensure timely, efficient and accurate dispensing of medication to the patients.
To assist the SIP in ensuring effective financial control of the dispensary/hybrid.
Responsible for maintaining a high level of Customer Service by all hybrid staff.
Weekly checking of red alerts on Eclipse and copying into patient notes.
Drug tariff monitoring on monthly basis to ensure maximising dispensary profits
Liaising with GP Partners and our Clinical Pharmacy team.
To carry out the dispensing assistant role, following the SOPs at all times, and leading the team in safe and effective dispensing practices.
DSQS reporting
To assist with implementing new processes and other projects within the dispensary
To ensure the dispensary is operating cost effectively under the guidance of the Dispensary Manager
To focus efforts to the maximum benefit of the practice, with respect to the policy decisions made from time to time by the practice.
To oversee the training of new dispensers.
To work with the Dispensary Manager in reviewing and updating SOPs.
To co-ordinate and update the dispensary rota and organise appropriate cover.
Person Specification
Qualifications
GCSE (or equivalent level) English and mathematics at grade C or above.
Dispensary qualification.
Management level 3 qualification (or working towards this goal).
Evidence of relevant continuing career development and training.
