The Opportunity
As a Key Account Manager – Business Development, you will be responsible for acquiring, growing, and delivering commercial outcomes by targeting strategic new business customers across the state. As a key member of the state sales team, your contribution will support the core strategy of driving new business revenue growth. You will be part of an exciting and talented Key Account Management team based in Northgate, Brisbane.
This role focuses on securing long-term partnerships with strategic Key Account customers in Queensland and converting these opportunities into sustainable solutions that meet customers' current and future needs.
This is not a transactional sales role, it is a relationship-led, consultative KAM business development position operating in a complex, multi-service environment, with a strong emphasis on revenue growth and seamless transition from acquisition to long-term account management.
What You'll Be Doing
Customer Acquisition
Act as the primary strategic contact for customers, building trusted long-term partnerships with prospective key accounts
Lead customer governance and contract management compliance
Support the smooth transition of newly acquired customers into the Key Account portfolio
Commercial and Financial Performance
Develop and execute account acquisition plans to maximise revenue, margin, and share of wallet
Ensure contract governance processes align with Cleanaway's commercial negotiation requirements
Prepare and manage quotes, tenders, and commercial proposals
Apply strong financial and commercial acumen to decision-making across new accounts
Growth and Business Development
Identify, pursue, and convert new business opportunities aligned to target market segments
Build and manage a structured sales pipeline of prospective key accounts
Present tailored total waste management solutions to prospective customers
Growth and Cross Collaboration
Identify and deliver cross-sell opportunities within Cleanaway's service offering
Work closely with operations, customer service, HSE, legal, and bid teams to deliver a unified Cleanaway value proposition across all waste streams
Translate customer and prospect needs into operationally viable and commercially sustainable solutions that build long-term trust
Governance, Systems and Reporting
Maintain accurate CRM, pipeline, and forecasting data
Ensure compliance with governance, safety, and risk management requirements
Act in line with "Our Cleanaway Way" and consistently represent Cleanaway in the market
About You
You are an experienced Key Account Manager or new business hunter with a strong business development mindset. You thrive in complex environments and understand how to balance customer value with commercial outcomes.
You Will Bring
Proven experience managing key or national accounts in a multi-service or complex B2B environment
Demonstrated success in business development, pipeline management, and new customer acquisition
Strong negotiation, relationship management, and influencing skills
Demonstrated commercial and financial acumen
A consultative, farmer-style approach focused on growth and long-term value
Strong stakeholder management across internal and external groups
High discipline in CRM usage, reporting, and account planning
Experience in FMCG, waste, environmental services, logistics, infrastructure, or industrial services is highly regarded.
