Primary objective
Provide dental assistance in a professional manner, which will contribute to the improved oral health and wellbeing of clients,
families, and communities.
Context statement
The applicant is required to undertake duties in a variety of locations within the region, assisting members of the dental health care
team.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide chair-side assistance for dental professionals providing services to adults and children in a variety of locations and
settings throughout the region.
2. Maintain, prepare and set up of dental equipment, instruments, medicaments and materials.
3. Comply with infection control measures to Australian standards, and departmental procedures to ensure patient and employee
safety.
4. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken
in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplace.
5. Maintain order and store stock, instruments, equipment, materials and medicaments, according to relevant Standards,
manufacturer’s specifications and organisational procedures.
6. Assist with the management of appointment schedules including booking, cancellation, rebooking and confirming appointments
using paper and electronic schedules.
7. Actively participate in quality improvement activities and staff development programs.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Certificate III in Dental Assisting or Accredited Qualification awarded by an Australian Institution and relevant experience in
dental assisting.
2. Northern Territory driver’s licence or commitment to obtain during probation period.
3. Demonstrated self-motivation, initiative, and ability to work effectively as a pro-active team member in a multidisciplinary team.
4. Well-developed time management skills and the ability to prioritise competing requirements and work effectively under
pressure with frequently changing priorities.
5. Good verbal and written communication skills, with a high standard of both conflict resolution and interpersonal skills
demonstrating the ability to communicate effectively with a culturally diverse range of clients and co-workers.
6. Flexibility to adapt work practices in a variety of clinic locations and environments, including Correctional Centres, Special
Needs and schools.
7. Ability and willingness to travel to remote communities by light aircraft or 4WD vehicle for periods of up to five days.
Desirable
1. Previous experience in rural/remote service delivery.
