About the Role
Djirra is experiencing sustained growth and continuing to expand its Legal Services across Victoria. We are currently recruiting for multiple roles that will support outreach service delivery across Traralgon, Shepparton, Mildura, Bendigo, Echuca, Melton and Melbourne.
As a Senior Lawyer, you will play a key leadership role within Djirra's legal service providing high-quality legal advice, representation and advocacy across family violence, child protection, family law and victims of crime.
Working within a holistic, trauma-informed model, you will support clients with complex needs while collaborating closely with Paralegal Support Workers and a multidisciplinary team. Alongside your client work, you will supervise and mentor junior lawyers and contribute to community engagement, legal education and systemic advocacy.

Key Responsibilities
* Provide legal advice, casework and court representation in family violence, child protection, family law and related matters
* Manage a complex caseload, including advocacy and briefing counsel where required
* Deliver culturally safe, trauma-informed legal services to Aboriginal clients
* Supervise and mentor lawyers and paralegal support workers
* Build and maintain strong relationships with community, legal and government stakeholders
* Contribute to community legal education, outreach and law reform initiatives
What You'll Bring
Essential
* Minimum 5 years' experience in family violence or related areas of law
* Strong advocacy skills and ability to manage complex legal matters
* Demonstrated experience working in a trauma-informed environment
* High-level communication skills and ability to engage with vulnerable clients
* Experience supervising or mentoring junior staff
* Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
* Eligibility or willingness to obtain VLA panel certification
* Understanding of culturally safe and holistic legal practice models
All successful applicants must be eligible to hold a practising certificate in Victoria, have a degree in law and will undergo reference checks, identity verification, Working with Children Check and National Police check.
