Become a Wheelchair Occupational Therapist
We are currently looking for a forward-thinking and enthusiastic individual who wants to join our existing team at Wakefield Equipment and Wheelchair Service.
This is a career-graded role with clear progression routes from Level 1 (Grade 7) through Level 3 (Grade 9).
Whether you're starting out or already qualified, we'll support you to grow and succeed.
(There is an eligibility criterion for government funded apprenticeships which require applicants to be aged 16 plus, be a resident in the UK/EU for the last three years).

What You'll Do
Work within the agreed eligibility criteria set out in the Wheelchair Service Specification, providing clinical rationale and seeking approval for prescriptions made outside these criteria.
Deliver a high standard of clinical assessment and intervention for service users with a range of long-term and short-term conditions.
Prescribe manual wheelchairs and associated equipment based on individual assessed need.
Maintain accurate clinical records and produce professional reports.
Participate in audits, service development, and quality improvement initiatives.
Uphold professional standards and council values, ensuring dignity, equality, and respect.
Who We're Looking For
Level 1 (Apprenticeship route)
Must meet the entry requirements set by the University of Huddersfield for the Occupational Therapy Degree Apprenticeship.
A passion for helping others and willingness to complete a 3-year degree apprenticeship.
Awareness of community health/social care, disability concepts, safeguarding, and equality principles.
Full driving licence and access to a car.
Level 2/3 (Qualified)
BSc (Hons) in Occupational Therapy.
HCPC registration.
Full driving licence and access to a car.
Strong knowledge of legislation (Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, Human Rights Act), clinical governance, and housing standards.
Experience managing complex cases and working collaboratively across teams.
Skills & Competencies
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to plan and prioritise workloads effectively.
Confidence in lone working and using supervision effectively.
Competence in IT systems and report writing.
Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
For Level 3: Ability to lead audits, mentor staff, and contribute to service development.
