What you'll bring to the team
We're looking for a dynamic and experienced Head of Technical to lead technical operations across our iconic Sydney-based attractions: SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium, Madame Tussauds Sydney, WILDLIFE Sydney Zoo, Sydney Tower Eye and Immersive Game Box Sydney.
In this pivotal role you'll oversee the delivery of safe, compliant and high‑performing technical operations across the cluster. You'll ensure all assets and infrastructure are maintained to the highest standards, support strategic capital projects and drive innovation and sustainability across our attractions, all while enhancing guest experience and operational excellence.
About the role
Reporting to the Cluster General Manager (Sydney) you will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance functions across our attractions. From maintaining excellent facility standards at the iconic Sydney Tower Eye to conducting routine maintenance on our Penguin Ride at SEA LIFE to ensuring the temperature is just right for our Koalas at WILD LIFE and leading a talented Studios artist team at Madame Tussauds – no two days are the same in this role.
What you'll do:
Technical Leadership & Support
* Provide expert guidance and hands‑on support across all our Sydney attractions, ensuring timely resolution of faults and minimising downtime that could impact guest experience or brand reputation.
* Act as the technical lead for the Sydney Cluster, collaborating with teams to ensure compliance with local legislation and global standards.
* Build strong collaborative relationships across the Merlin teams and contractors to deliver best‑in‑class standards.
* Strong background in Electrical / Mechanical FM desirable.
Asset Management & Compliance
* Oversee asset lifecycle planning and ensure robust maintenance strategies are in place.
* Intervene and elevate where asset performance or compliance is at risk, ensuring proactive management and reporting to the General Manager and Global Technical Services.
Capital Projects
* Lead and support short‑ and medium‑term capex projects focused on infrastructure upgrades and asset replacement.
* Ensure projects are delivered on time within budget and aligned with operational needs and guest experience goals.
Innovation & Best Practice
* Champion innovation across the cluster, identifying opportunities to improve asset performance and guest experience.
* Share lessons learned and best practices with the wider Regional and Global Technical Services team to support continuous improvement.
Environmental Engineering & Sustainability
* Work closely with the Energy and Sustainability Team to implement green initiatives and reduce the environmental footprint of our operations.
* Support the deployment of sustainable capex projects that align with Merlin's global sustainability goals.
People & Culture
* Lead the Sydney technical team with a focus on driving team performance and engagement.
* Foster a culture of safety, collaboration and continuous development within the Technical Services team.

About You
A passion for travel and tourism is essential for any of our roles and to truly shine in this position you will also have:
Proven experience in a maintenance or facilities team within a high‑demanding and fast‑paced environment.
Knowledge of electrical, mechanical and facilities maintenance as well as third‑party and compliance related matters.
Strong background in Electrical / Mechanical FM desirable.
Ability to understand ride infrastructure maintenance and compliance.
Leadership experience and ability to inspire an internal team and direct external contractors.
The ideal candidate will also be trained as either a mechanical, electrical or structural engineer, or suitable tradesperson.
