**Position Summary** Works to promote management commitment and actions in preventing injury. Assists employees in learning how to identify, evaluate and report hazards. Promotes employee involvement and responsibility in monitoring the safety of all. Assists to ensure that required audits, floor walks, inspections occur and are documented. Acts as the liasation between Home Office and the location safety program.
**Job Duties/Essential Functions**
- Help train employees in how to conduct effective incident investigations to find root cause and future prevention analysis.
- Complete the appropriate Return to Work Coordinator training for their jurisdiction.
- Support the return to work modified duty program.
- Promote the empowerment of the health and safety committee. Training for health and safety committee members as to their responsibilities.
- Help ensure that safety training is scheduled, completed, documented and tracked in accordance with the fiscal year safety planner.
- Support the health and safety committee Chairperson in his/her duties,
- Conduct training of managers and supervisors regarding safety policy and procedures.
- Promote the use and care of appropriate safety equipment.
- Be familiar with the Risk Management Manual contents.
- Help to administer incentive/recognition programs on a regular basis.
- Promote proactive safety efforts, not just reactive (use of posters, literature, games, promote communication between managers and employees, encourage all employee involvement, etc.)
- Review job hazard analysis with department personnel and submit recommended additions/changes to Home Office. Safety precautions must be specific to task at hand.
- Promote management, supervisor, health and safety committee authority and safety responsibilities.
- Promote the specific remarking of safety involvement in performance reviews.
- Be empowered by the location manager to carry out all of these duties, and be given the schedule time to do them.
- Assist implementing Safety Week annually.
- Complete the appropriate Return to Work training for their jurisdiction.
**_ Ability to operate vehicles, equipment or machinery_**
- Computer, printer, phone, calculator, hand held two-way radio, compactor baler, pallet jack.
- Education/Training: Higher School Certificate or higher.
- Knowledge/Skills: Customer service, leadership, employee relations or comparable experience. Google Suite (Docs, Spreadsheet, Slides).
- Other Skills and Abilities: Good communication, strong interpersonal, organisation, problem solving and basic math skills.
