Community Relations Officer (Part-Time)

About the Role
Join the Port Hedland Industries Council (PHIC) and play a key role supporting constructive engagement between industry, government and the local community in one of Australia's most significant economic regions.
PHIC represents major industries operating in the Port Hedland region and works to facilitate dialogue on issues including economic development, environmental management and regional planning.
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Community Relations Officer to support the CEO and PHIC Working Groups in delivering stakeholder engagement and community relations activities. The role focuses on building trusted relationships with local stakeholders, identifying emerging community issues and supporting transparent engagement between industry and the Port Hedland community.
This position will suit someone with experience in stakeholder engagement, communications or community relations, particularly within industry, government or regional organisations.

PHIC plays an important role in facilitating dialogue between industry and the community on key issues including environment, economic development and regional planning.
Key Responsibilities
Administration
* Coordinate and schedule meetings between the CEO and external stakeholders, including community representatives and local, state and federal government.
* Prepare agendas, meeting papers and track action items arising from PHIC working groups.
* Coordinate the delivery of PHIC environmental programs.
* Provide support with annual and mid-year budgeting processes and financial acquittals.
* Prepare and finalise formal meeting minutes.
* Undertake other duties as required and comply with PHIC policies and procedures.
Community Relations
* Support the CEO and Community & Stakeholder Engagement Working Group in positioning PHIC as a credible and trusted contributor to the Port Hedland community.
* Develop and maintain an understanding of local community priorities, emerging issues and stakeholder sentiment, and how these relate to PHIC activities.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with community organisations, local leaders, government representatives and other key stakeholders.
* Respond to community enquiries and concerns, ensuring issues are recorded, monitored and escalated where required.
* Undertake stakeholder mapping and community profiling to support effective engagement planning.
* Support the development and implementation of community and stakeholder engagement strategies and communications plans.
* Maintain accurate records of stakeholder interactions, commitments and emerging issues.
* Capture community feedback and provide engagement reporting and insights to PHIC leadership and working groups.
* Support the preparation and distribution of engagement materials including webpages, newsletters, briefing packs, FAQs, advertising and event materials.
* Organise and coordinate Community Industry Forums (currently held quarterly) and other approved community engagement events.
* Assist with communications and social media content supporting PHIC engagement activities.
* Demonstrate professionalism and integrity in all interactions with stakeholders and the community.
Advocacy
* Undertake community and stakeholder engagement on behalf of PHIC as directed by the CEO.
* Promote a positive and informed understanding of industry and its contribution to the Port Hedland region.
Skills and Experience
* Experience in communications, community engagement, stakeholder management or a related field.
* Qualification in social sciences, communications, marketing, commerce or a related discipline (desirable).
* Knowledge of the Port Hedland community, local issues and key stakeholders is essential.
* Experience working with government, industry or community organisations will be highly regarded.
* Strong relationship management and communication skills.
* Excellent written communication and literacy skills.
* Strong organisational and problem‐solving capability with the ability to adapt in a dynamic environment.
* Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritise tasks and identify solutions proactively.
* Ability to achieve outcomes through collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
