Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced
Senior Procurement Trader
to lead
procurement and trading of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap
. The role will focus on
commercial negotiations, supplier strategy, market execution, and margin optimisation
, requiring strong market knowledge, established supplier/buyer relationships, and the ability to execute profitable trades while managing risk.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Trading
* Lead end-to-end
procurement and trading of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap
(including sourcing, contracting, pricing, and execution).
* Identify and execute trading opportunities aligned with
scrap market movements
, arbitrage opportunities, and business strategy.
* Develop and manage long-term relationships with
scrap yards, recyclers, processors, exporters, mills, and trading counterparties
across domestic and international markets.
* Negotiate commercial contracts covering
pricing mechanisms, volumes, delivery terms, payment terms, and risk clauses
.
Market & Commercial Analysis
* Track global and regional
ferrous and non-ferrous scrap markets
, price indices, and supply–demand dynamics.
* Conduct
margin analysis, arbitrage evaluation, and risk assessments
to support trading decisions.
* Provide regular market intelligence, forecasts, and strategic recommendations to senior management.
Risk Management & Compliance
* Manage
price volatility, counterparty risk, logistics risk, and credit exposure
within approved limits.
* Ensure compliance with
Australian trade regulations, environmental norms, scrap import/export laws
, and internal policies.
* Work closely with legal, finance, and risk teams on contracts, hedging strategies, and exposure management.
Execution & Stakeholder Management
* Coordinate with
logistics, shipping, operations, inspection agencies, and finance teams
to ensure smooth trade execution.
* Resolve commercial, quality, specification, or delivery-related disputes efficiently.
* Mentor and guide junior traders or procurement professionals where applicable.
Key Requirements
* 4–10+ years of experience in
ferrous and/or non-ferrous scrap procurement and trading
.
* Strong understanding of
scrap grades, specifications, pricing benchmarks, and recycling supply chains
.
* Proven track record of
profit-driven trading, sourcing optimisation, and high-value negotiations
.
* Ability to independently manage trades and take ownership of
P&L outcomes
.
* Excellent commercial, analytical, and negotiation skills.
* Strong communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Business, Economics, Engineering, or a related field.
* MBA or relevant postgraduate qualification is an advantage.
* Experience trading scrap with
APAC, Middle East, Europe, or global markets
preferred.
