ASC is Australia's submarine company – the sustainer of Australia's conventionally armed, nuclear‐powered submarines in the AUKUS partnership. To deliver on this new and exciting work, we are seeking individuals with an eagerness to learn, to undertake long‐term, world‐leading training in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, US.

Placements are available July 2026 and will be 34 weeks in duration.

Responsibilities

* Measure, cut, and install insulation materials such as fiberglass, foam, and mineral wool on pipes, ducts, boilers, tanks, and hull structures.
* Create and install insulation blankets, pads, and covers to fit irregular shapes and complex ship systems.
* Apply vapor barriers, jacketing, and mastic coatings to protect the insulation from moisture and ensure fire resistance.
* Remove and replace damaged or deteriorated insulation materials and perform ongoing repairs to maintain system functionality.
* Utilise hand tools (knives, saws, tape measures) and power tools for cutting, fitting, and applying insulation materials.

Eligibility Criteria

* Experience as an Insulator/Lagger.
* Solid understanding of insulation materials such as fiberglass, foam, mineral wool, and various installation techniques.
* Knowledge of acoustic insulation, including noise and vibration control.
* Previous sheet metal cladding and or jacketing experience.
* An ability to obtain and maintain an NV1 defence clearance.

Additional Details

During deployment, you will receive on‐the‐job training combined with instructor‐led classroom training. This training program and work is carried out in accordance with company and US Navy processes and procedures.

At the completion of your deployment, you will return to Western Australia (WA) to carry out the planning, management, and in‐water maintenance activities on the United States Navy Virginia Class Submarines.

Repatriation to WA is non‐negotiable, so please consider this when applying.

Please note: This is a Civilian role and recruitment processes will differ from those undertaken in Active Service Defence recruitment.
