Are you an experienced accountant who genuinely enjoys working with people? Do you take pride in building trusted, long‐term client relationships — not just processing numbers?
We are looking for a motivated and personable Accountant to join our close‐knit team. This is a client‐facing role at its core, and the ideal candidate will be just as comfortable sitting across the table from a client as they are in their accounting software. While personal tax returns are a key deliverable, this role extends well beyond compliance — you will be a genuine point of contact for the clients you look after, helping them understand their financial position and feel confident in their decisions.
What You'll Be Doing
Client Relationship Management
* Serve as the primary point of contact for a defined portfolio of individual and small business clients
* Build genuine, trust‐based relationships through proactive communication and follow‐up
* Conduct client meetings and calls to discuss results, obligations, and planning opportunities
* Provide clear, jargon‐free explanations that empower clients to make informed decisions
Personal Tax Compliance
* Prepare and review individual income tax returns, including complex returns with investment portfolios, rental properties, and sole trader income
* Manage client tax affairs throughout the year — not just at lodgement time
* Identify tax planning opportunities and proactively communicate relevant legislative changes
Entity & Group Tax Compliance
* Prepare tax returns for smaller companies, trusts, partnerships, and self‐managed superannuation funds (SMSFs)
* Assist with the preparation of financial statements for smaller entities and groups
* Support work on smaller consolidated groups and associated entity structures
* Prepare and lodge Business Activity Statements and Instalment Activity Statements
* Perform bookkeeping and reconciliation work for clients using Xero
* Assist clients with software queries and ensure their records are accurate and up to date
About You
Above all, you are a people person. You understand that behind every tax return is a real person who wants to feel looked after. You are proactive, organised, and bring a calm, professional manner to every client interaction.
Skills & Attributes
* Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills — written, verbal, and in person
* A genuine interest in building client relationships and delivering a high standard of service
* Strong initiative and the confidence to manage your own client portfolio with appropriate supervision
* Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines without dropping the ball
* A collaborative team player who is willing to support colleagues and contribute to a positive culture
* Adaptable and solutions‐oriented — you find a way forward, not just a problem
Technical Requirements
* Approximately 5 years of experience in Australian public practice accounting
* Solid working knowledge of income tax for individuals, companies, trusts, and partnerships
* Experience preparing BAS and working with GST obligations
* Proficiency in Xero
* Working towards or holding a CPA or CA qualification (or equivalent)
* Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and Outlook
What We Offer
* A stable, supportive team environment where your contribution is genuinely valued
* A real client portfolio to call your own, with room to grow those relationships over time
* Mentoring and guidance from experienced senior practitioners
* Support for CA / CPA study leave and associated costs
* Flexible working arrangements available after the settling‐in period
* Competitive remuneration commensurate with experience
