Nurse Practitioner / Transition Nurse Practitioner - Emergency Department role at NSW Health. Temporary Part Time position up to 05 July 2026. Position Classification: Nurse Practitioner. What you’ll be doing
The Emergency Medicine Nurse Practitioner (NP) at Prince of Wales Hospital (POWH) delivers expert, person‑centred care to adult patients in both emergency and outpatient settings. In collaboration with admitting teams, the NP leads discharge planning and outpatient follow‑ups to improve patient outcomes and reduce readmissions. The NP also drives the specialty forward through research and quality improvement initiatives at local and national levels. You will join POWH to provide leadership in clinical excellence and patient care.
The NP role includes a comprehensive extended practice scope with assessment, interpretation of diagnostics, treatment modalities and relevant referrals across a broad range of challenging, complex and changing situations within the Emergency setting.
Selection Criteria
- Registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia including endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner or working towards endorsement per NMBA guidelines.
- Postgraduate qualifications at Masters level in an NMBA approved program or relevant clinical specialty, or working towards.
- High level knowledge and advanced clinical nursing skills including comprehensive assessment, interpretation of diagnostics, implementation of treatment modalities and relevant referrals for complex situations.
- Understanding of the Stroke care delivery system and ability to lead and implement changes in clinical practice through evidence‑based research.
- Experience in complex client‑centred consultancy, practice development activities including mentoring, education, and quality improvement.
- Advanced clinical leadership, negotiation, liaison, interpersonal and problem‑solving skills across the Stroke specialty.
- Ability to work autonomously with accountability while collaborating in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Current driver’s licence or willingness to travel as required.
