Position Overview
We have an opportunity for a Senior Lawyer with significant commercial or generalist experience to join our high performing, collaborative and committed in-house Legal Services team.
The Legal Services team is part of the Bureau's Organisational Resilience Program and occupies a position of trust within the Bureau. As a team, we're pragmatic, passionate and generous in sharing our knowledge and working together to get the best outcomes for the Bureau. We're respected for our advice and authority as advisors to Group Executives, General Managers, and teams across the Bureau.
This is a great role for someone who is proactive, strategic and a team-player. You will be providing legal advice on a range of commercial agreements and involved in unique, and often high-value, transactions and projects. You need to be comfortable working in a complex environment with multiple stakeholders. You need to also have experience in, or be able to adapt to, delivering advice across a range of legal fields.
Ideally, you will have at least 5 years' post admission experience or equivalent in a general/commercial practice. Previous in-house and government experience is highly regarded but not essential.
The role reports to the Principal Lawyer, Legal Services.
Role responsibilities
The responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
* Under broad direction, delivering high quality legal services to all areas of the Bureau. This includes:
* providing strategic and commercial legal advice on technology, procurement and commercial transactions, with a focus on protecting and advancing the Commonwealth and Bureau's objectives.
* reviewing, drafting and assisting negotiation on a wide range of commercial agreements on behalf of the Bureau, presenting the agency's position in the context of complex or sensitive issues.
* from time to time, assisting with dispute resolution matters, commissions and inquests, inquiries and employment-related matters.
* advising on the interpretation of a broad range of legislation and its application to the Bureau.
* reviewing policies and procedures to ensure legal accuracy and compliance.
* developing and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders, engaging and collaborating to achieve outcomes and facilitate cooperation; and
* monitoring emerging legal issues and identifying potential impacts on priorities and outcomes, contributing to risk management activities within the area of responsibility.
* Contributing to the implementation of the Organisational Resilience Program Plan in collaboration with other staff and internal and external stakeholders.
* Complying with all Bureau work, health and safety policies and procedures, and taking reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of employees, contractors and visitors who may be affected by your conduct.
