Career Employment Group Inc is seeking applications for an Aboriginal Health Practitioner Trainee to work with our valued Host Employer in Whyalla. This is a full time position, open to both school-based and non school-based applicants.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People are encouraged to apply for this position.
As part of this opportunity, you will undertake a Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice.
As a Trainee Aboriginal Health Practitioner, you will:
Support Aboriginal patients attending emergency, outpatient and inpatient services.
Provide culturally safe care and help clinical teams view treatment through an Aboriginal cultural lens.
Assist with assessments, delegated clinical interventions, care planning and patient education (within your level of training and under clinical supervision).
Help patients stay engaged in treatment, avoid unnecessary hospital stays, and connect back to community support services.
Participate in discharge planning, hospital avoidance strategies, and patient journey improvements.
Work closely with the Emergency Department team, the FUNLHN Aboriginal Health Unit, and community stakeholders.
Position Requirements
Working with Children Check (WWCC) (DHS)
National Police Check
Strong connection with, and understanding of, Aboriginal communities, culture, and health needs.
Willingness to work in an acute health environment as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Ability to use initiative, maintain confidentiality and communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff.
Be an Australian Resident or have a valid working visa.
Desirable, but not essential experience:
Working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people to support their health needs.
Experience in engagement, assessment, referral or advocacy work.
Collaboration with clinical or community services.
