The opportunity

Our national Hazardous Materials & Occupational Hygiene team comprises licensed asbestos assessors, certified occupational hygienists, senior toxicologists, and laboratory professionals. We have in-house NATA accredited asbestos laboratories in all major offices.

We’re expanding our NSW Hazardous Materials & Occupational Hygiene team and looking for an Associate or Senior Associate Consultant to take the lead on a major client account.

The role can be based on the Central Coast, Newcastle, or our newly refurbished Sydney office. We work hybrid, so you’ll enjoy the flexibility of working from home when not required on client sites, great for maintaining work-life balance. We will provide financial support for anyone who might have to relocate for the role.

In this role, you’ll help elevate EHS standards, protect worker wellbeing, and strengthen client reputations by delivering expert advice that meets both regulatory and best practice benchmarks.

Our recent projects span industrial sites, research facilities, and public infrastructure, working with clients like the Department of Education, Sydney Trains, Transport for NSW, Scentre Group, Westpac, NSW Health, AMPOL, SafeWork, CSIRO, and Rio Tinto.

Expect a dynamic role with overtime opportunities, excellent working conditions, and a diverse team of experts ready to support your growth through hands-on mentoring and tailored training.

What you’ll do

- Lead and manage hazardous materials assessments, including asbestos, lead, PCBs, and other regulated substances, from initial survey through to remediation and clearance
- Provide occupational hygiene advice, including exposure assessment, risk management, and the development of control strategies for chemical, biological, and physical hazards in workplaces
- Oversee the development and implementation of hazardous materials management plans and occupational hygiene monitoring programs
- Ensure all work complies with relevant Australian legislation, codes of practice, and industry standards
- Prepare high-quality technical reports, risk assessments, and client communications in a timely manner
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to consultants and junior staff, supporting their professional development and knowledge sharing
- Build and maintain robust client relationships, identifying new business opportunities and contributing to tender submissions
- Stay current with industry developments, emerging hazards, and technology trends relevant to hazardous materials and occupational hygiene

About you

You will ideally bring the following:

- Typically 8+ years in hazardous materials management and occupational hygiene consulting
- Demonstrated expertise in conducting hazardous materials surveys, risk assessments, and remediation projects
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant Australian and state regulations, codes of practice, and standards
- Proven ability to manage complex projects, deliver high-quality reports, and meet client expectations
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and communication skills
- Professional membership or certification, e.g. full membership of the Australian Institute of AIOH, COH, and/or Licensed Asbestos Assessor is highly regarded
