Position Title: EL1 Site Security Manager
Employment Type: 12 Month contract, with the potential of extension
Location: Canberra based with domestic and overseas travel
Hourly Pay Rate: Competitive hourly rate
Security Clearance/Requirements: Australian Government NV2 (or equivalent)
Working Arrangements: On-site, full-time with travel as required
ABOUT THE ROLE
An opportunity is available for an experienced Site Security Manager (SSM) to lead construction security and site observation activities across complex projects, both domestically and overseas.
This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of construction security on secure worksites, working closely with government stakeholders, contractors, and internal teams to ensure security compliance, integrity, and accreditation requirements are met.
You will operate with a high level of autonomy, professionalism, and discretion in a security-designated environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Lead and manage construction security and site observation programs
* Plan and establish site security requirements in consultation with contractors and stakeholders
* Ensure compliance with approved Construction Security Plans and relevant security frameworks
* Manage daily operations and oversight of Site Security Observers
* Allocate and schedule resources in line with the master project program
* Monitor site personnel behaviour and integrity to identify potential security risks
* Conduct audits, inspections, and reporting in line with government security requirements
* Manage technical security equipment including CCTV, alarms, and access control systems
* Coordinate witnessing of construction hold points and document vulnerabilities
* Deliver on-site security training and briefings
* Prepare detailed reports and provide advice to senior stakeholders
* Foster a strong culture of integrity, security awareness, and compliance
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
* Proven experience in construction security management within secure or high-risk environments
* Strong knowledge of Australian Government physical and technical security frameworks
* Experience establishing, operating, and troubleshooting construction security equipment
* Excellent leadership skills with experience managing operational and project teams
* Ability to identify, investigate, and manage security incidents
* Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building capability
* High-level written and verbal communication skills
* Sound judgement and ability to operate under limited direction
* Experience working on construction sites, including WHS and risk management, ideally in overseas environments
ELIGIBILITY
To be considered, applicants must:
* Hold Australian, UK, New Zealand, Canadian, or US citizenship
* Hold a current Australian Government NV2 security clearance (or equivalent) prior to commencement
* Be willing and able to travel domestically and internationally
* Hold relevant licences and certifications, including:
o Construction Induction (White Card)
o Working Safely at Heights
o Provide First Aid (or equivalent)
o Asbestos Awareness
o Crystalline Silica Exposure Prevention
Mandatory security and pre-deployment training will be required prior to commencement.
