Primary objective
Collaboratively lead work and supervise the daily operations of a small team to provide expert advice and support on operational matters
to government schools, the department, and the community and contribute to the implementation of NT and Commonwealth Government
policies and department strategic priorities in NT Government schools.
Context statement
School Operations provides operational advice and services to government schools, tailored to their needs and focused on supporting
their improvement agenda. School Operations ensures the implementation of NT and Commonwealth Government policies and
department strategic priorities in NT Government schools. The position works within a small collaborative team that provides a frontline
service to 36 schools. The environment is high pressure, and priorities can change quickly requiring all team members to have a high level
of adaptability and resilience.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide high level professional support, strategic and operational advice on issues impacting educational outcomes for students to the
Senior Director, Director and Principals tailored to their needs and improvement agenda.
2. Contribute to the leadership and delivery of core business, supervising the daily operations of the school operations regional team and
covering the regional Director as required.
3. Research and prepare high-level briefings including Cabinet and Ministerial correspondence, reports, and submissions on a range of
issues relevant to school operations in a clear, concise and timely manner.
4. Effectively manage complaints adhering to the complaint resolution framework, successfully liaising with principals, parents and
community members with a focus on positive outcomes on a broad range of educational issues.
1. Liaise effectively at all levels with departmental and school staff, external stakeholders, agencies, and the community in a culturally
appropriate manner regarding a broad range of educational issues.
1. Undertake projects to support continuous improvement of school operations and the department using effective research and
evidence-based approaches, as well as stakeholder engagement and feedback.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. High-level organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines under pressure, while maintaining high
standards of quality and accuracy.
2. Demonstrated experience in complaint management and problem solving to achieve positive and sustainable outcomes.
3. Proven experience in the preparation of complex briefings and Ministerial responses including high level reports, discussion papers
and correspondence.
4. Exceptional communication and negotiation skills with proven ability to build, maintain and facilitate effective networks and
collaborative partnerships across diverse internal and external stakeholders.
5. Proven strategic, conceptual and analytical capability, including the ability to interpret and manage complex political, social, and
organisational contexts and respond effectively.
6. Comprehensive understanding, or the ability to rapidly acquire this knowledge, of departmental policy, processes, legislative
requirements, and strategic priorities to inform the preparation of briefings and the implementation of school operational policy
implementation.
