Financial Controller (Contract for 3 / 4 months)
Our client is seeking an experienced and hands‐on Financial Controller for a 3 / 4 month contract, to join their organisation and play a critical role in strengthening its financial operations and systems.
Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), this position will lead financial control, reporting, and compliance functions while driving improvements across finance systems, processes, and internal controls. This is a practical, hands‐on, operational leadership role suited to a technically strong finance professional who enjoys working closely with a team, improving systems, and enhancing financial visibility across the business. You will contribute to sustainable growth by ensuring financial integrity, regulatory compliance, robust risk management, and high‐quality reporting that supports informed decision‐making.

Key responsibilities/tasks include:
Finance Systems & Process Improvement
* Conduct a comprehensive review of existing finance systems, workflows, and controls to identify inefficiencies and risks.
* Design and implement improved financial processes, controls, and reporting frameworks.
* Lead system enhancements, upgrades, or implementation projects to improve automation, data integrity, and reporting capability.
* Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for finance functions.
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen governance, scalability, and operational efficiency.
* Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
* Support month‐end and year‐end processes.
* Ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
* Prepare financial reports as required.
* Manage relationships with external stakeholders – auditors, banking institutions and advisors.
Risk management and controls
* Identify financial risks and recommend mitigations.
* Ensure compliance with internal governance and risk management standards.
Taxation Compliance
* Ensure compliance with Australian taxation obligations – BAS, GST, PAYG, FBT, Payroll Tax and Superannuation Guarantee.
* Oversee Single Touch Payroll compliance.
* Ensure compliance with relevant Fair Work Act obligations in accordance with payroll governance.
Budgets and Financial Analysis
* Lead the annual budgeting process in partnership with Executive and operation leaders.
* Prepare rolling forecasts and cash flow projections.
* Conduct variance analysis and provide insights.
Leadership and development
* Promote accountability and continuous improvement.
* Support accounts payable and receivable functions.
* Oversee payroll.
* Drive process automation and system optimisation.

* Part‐time temporary role – flexible to offer 0.6‐0.8FTE.

About You
* Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Commerce or Finance.
* CA or CPA qualification (mandatory).
* 5+ years experience in senior financial role.
* Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Systems.
* Knowledge ATO compliance.
* Experience implementing internal frameworks and financial controls.
* Experience managing audits.
* High level commercial acumen.
* Strong analytical and problem‐solving ability.
* High attention to detail.
* Ability to mentor and develop others.
* Ethical judgement and integrity.
* Customer‐centric approach, with the ability to think outside the box, and work with a strong commitment to togetherness.
