We are currently seeking a proactive and detail-orientedWaste Coordinatorto join a busy logistics and distribution environment on a 6-month full-time assignment.
Working the night shift, you will play an important role in driving waste compliance and ensuring safe and efficient waste management processes across the site.
In this hands-on position, you will be responsible for the end-to-end management of regulated and hazardous waste, including sorting, classification, and removal, as well as maintaining the documentation and reporting needed to ensure full regulatory compliance.
You will also support ongoing process improvements and deliver on-site waste education to promote safe and sustainable practices.
Key Responsibilities
Identify, classify, label, and document regulated and hazardous waste from inventory and site operations, ensuring compliance with relevant state and national waste regulations.
Maintain and organise the waste storage area, including housekeeping and upkeep of safety equipment (e.g. eyewash stations, spill kits, fire extinguishers).
Accurately log and containerise all regulated and hazardous waste using a digital reporting system.
Coordinate with waste service providers to arrange collections, manage documentation, and maintain adequate stock of containers, labels, and related supplies.
Conduct regular environmental inspections, report findings, and collaborate with internal teams to implement corrective actions.
Support monthly waste inventory reporting and determine appropriate shipping frequencies to meet accumulation requirements.
Assist in establishing and maintaining a staging area for products pending waste classification.
Provide regular environmental updates to site leadership and ensure visibility of environmental performance and compliance requirements.
Participate in Dangerous Goods (DG) / Hazardous Materials (HazMat) training and maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant procedures.
Respond to incidental spills, leaks, or releases as required.
Analyse waste data to identify reduction opportunities and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Contribute to environmental and waste-related projects for ongoing professional development.
Notify internal and external stakeholders of any reportable or unusual waste events as required by environmental regulations.
About You
Ability to deep dive data to identify opportunities, issues or improvements for waste minimization
Experience in a fulfillment/distribution center environment
Experience with inventory, bin types, containers, and all tools used to move product throughout the warehouse
Experience and knowledge in waste classification, segregation and state-based waste regulatory requirements
Interest in Environmental, Health and Safety field of work and Environmental Compliance at the site level
Understanding of Receiving processes and operations
A Diploma or Degree in Environmental Science or Science
Excellent attention to detail and work with the highest level of accuracy
Strong written and oral communication skills
Proven ability to clearly communicate with managers and associates at all levels
Ability to work extra hours as required
Continued meeting and exceeding of department performance goals
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook and Explorer)
Proven ability to work productively and efficiently in an independent setting and within a team
