Senior Social Worker (Level 3) - Child and Family Health - Location Negotiable within MNCLHD
Location: Mid North Coast Local Health District, Port Macquarie, New South Wales, Australia (within MNCLHD).
Overview
The Level 3 Social Worker provides psychosocial and parenting interventions with vulnerable families participating in the Sustaining NSW Families (SNF) program in the MNCLHD. The role augments the nurse home visitor (CFHN) to address family needs beyond the nurse home visitor scope, through casework, group work and community education with other government and non-government organisations. The role focuses on specialist social work and counselling interventions with an early intervention approach to enhance parenting capacity, promote healthy family functioning, support families during change and promote infant mental health. The position involves working with families with complex issues and potential exposure to trauma. The senior social worker can demonstrate advanced reasoning skills and operate autonomously with minimal direct clinical supervision.
Responsibilities
* Provide psychosocial and parenting interventions as part of SNF program in MNCLHD.
* Work with CFHN and other team members in casework, group work and community education/activities with other government and non-government organisations.
* Deliver specialist social work and counselling interventions with an early intervention focus to enhance parenting capacity and infant mental health.
* Address needs outside the nurse home visitor role and support the parent-child relationship.
* Demonstrate advanced reasoning skills and operate autonomously with minimal direct clinical supervision.
* Work with families with complex issues and potential exposure to trauma.
Qualifications
* Degree in Social Work from an accredited course providing eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
* Extensive experience with families with complex clinical presentations in perinatal mental health, child protection, domestic violence and substance misuse.
* Advanced therapeutic skills in conducting complex psychosocial assessments and counselling for vulnerable families in stressful situations.
* Experience providing clinical consultation and facilitating case reviews in a family-centered, community-based multidisciplinary team.
* Experience developing and maintaining cooperative relationships with other health teams, government and NGO agencies, with strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
* Strong verbal and written communication, time management, organisational skills, and computer literacy.
* Current unrestricted driver's licence and willingness to travel for work.
