About the Opportunity
We have a great opportunity for a Safety Engineer to join our Hunter Class Frigate Program. This role will report to the Product Safety Manager and involves ensuring corporate governance, legal and customer requirements are met from a System Safety perspective.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate system safety activities within assigned projects, communicating hazards, mitigation strategies and review results internally and externally.
- Prepare internal and external reports on each project’s system safety to support reviews and Safety Working Groups.
- Lead determination of safety requirements affecting material and component suppliers and vendors, recommending approval or rejection of vendor/supplier safety documentation.
- Maintain each project’s Hazard Log and supporting documentation.
- Stay current with best practices in safety engineering within BAE Systems, Australia, Defence and Industry.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering desirable but not essential.
- Experience undertaking safety engineering programmes based on standards such as MIL‑STD‑882.
- Demonstrated experience executing safety programmes in a large organisation or programme as a Safety Engineer.
- Experience creating safety cases and hazard logs.
- Initiative and self‑motivation.
- Excellent communication skills, liaising verbally and in writing with stakeholders.
- Background in a Defence or Maritime setting advantageous.
- Current NV1 Clearance or eligibility to obtain.
- Eligibility to be cleared for ITAR regulations.
