Job Title: APS6 Legal Adviser
The Regulatory Legal team provides expert advice and support to various regulatory activities, including investigations under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (WHS Act) and criminal prosecutions for alleged contraventions of the WHS Act.
* Providing guidance on evidence gathering, issuing statutory notices, and investigation procedures
* Assisting with the preparation of briefs of evidence
* Collaborating closely with the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecution and the Inspector when a prosecution is commenced
* Facilitating continuous improvement projects and identifying trends and capability opportunities for inspectors
This role involves working under limited direction, collaborating with Senior Legal Advisers to provide client-focused specialist legal and strategic advice and support to staff on complex legal and policy matters.
You will resolve complex problems, manage risk effectively and manage your workload in accordance with the APS Values and Code of Conduct, the Legal Services Directions 2017, and internal procedures.
Mandatory qualifications include admission as a legal practitioner of the High Court or the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory, with at least 3 years of post-admission experience desirable. A current Practising Certificate or ability to obtain one within three months is also required.
To be eligible, you must undergo a Character clearance (Australian Criminal History Check), Employee Health Declaration, and agree to a six-month probationary period. You will also require the ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline Security Clearance.
