We are recruiting an experience Assistant Venue Manager to join the team of a, large-scale hospitality venue. Supporting the General Manager, you'll be part of a collaborative team, working together to deliver high-quality service and entertainment.

The Venue

Flinders Street Wharves (FSW) features multiple indoor and outdoor dining spaces and bars including a rooftop bar designed for special events with a focus on tourism event attachments. The venue is centrally located in the heart of Townsville.

With an exciting expansion on the horizon - The Docks, a new overwater restaurant and bar, will be the first of its kind in North Queensland and will offer a more elevated experience with a Mediterranean inspired feel.

Role Overview

The Assistant Manager supports the Venue Manager in the day-to-day operational delivery, team leadership, guest service excellence, and revenue performance across the Main FSW Venue areas - including the pontoon.

Acting as the key deputy, the assistant manager may occasionally step in to fully manage the venue during the Venue Manager's absence (e.g., leave, days off), ensuring continuity of service, compliance, and team performance in a dynamic, high-volume waterfront hospitality environment.

Key Responsibilities

* Support the Venue Manager with rostering (via Tanda), training, performance feedback, and supervision of front-of-house teams (bar, wait, floor staff) and Duty Managers.
* Oversee daily shifts, including floor/bar operations, service flow, guest interactions, upsells, and timely issue resolution.
* Step in as acting Venue Manager when required, taking responsibility for venue operations, cash handling, stock checks, and compliance.
* Ensure adherence to RSA, food safety/hygiene, WHS regulations and liquor licensing.
* Assist with inventory monitoring, stock ordering, variance reporting, and cost control.
* Contribute to promotions, specials, events, and team culture initiatives (e.g., supporting bonding activities and morale boosts).
* Handle guest feedback, resolve complaints promptly, and maintain high service standards.
* Collaborate with Venue Manager, Head Chef, Functions Manager, and Social Media Manager to support seamless service, quality, and event delivery.

Required Skills & Experience

* 2+ years in supervisory or assistant management roles in high-volume hospitality (e.g., Duty Manager or equivalent).
* Proven experience in FOH operations, team supervision, and stepping into managerial duties.
* Current RSA certificate (QLD); food safety supervisor certification desirable.
* Current Responsible Service of Gambling Certificate (RSG); TAB Certificate; Responsible Management of Licensed Venues (RMLV), Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Certificate, First Aid Certificate.
* Knowledge of Hospitality Industry (General) Award 2020 entitlements, rostering, and compliance.
* Proficiency in POS systems, Tanda rostering/payroll, and basic inventory tools.
