Pumpkin Island is a privately owned, solar-powered eco-island off the Capricorn Coast, Southern Great Barrier Reef. Pumpkin Island is seeking an experienced Island Host Couple to live on-island and manage day-to-day operations, guest experience, and island presentation.

* In this dynamic and rewarding role, you will be responsible for the day to day operation, presentation, guest experience and smooth running of Pumpkin Island. This is a hands on, autonomous role suited to an experienced couple comfortable with remote living and seasonal intensity. Ensuring our guests have an exceptional experience is of utmost importance. Ideally you will be energetic and enthusiastic, but can take initiative and love problem solving.
On-site accommodation is provided on the island for this position.
Key Responsibilities
1. Guest arrivals, departures & on-island support
2. Overseeing cleaning, changeovers & presentation standards
3. Basic maintenance, troubleshooting & contractor coordination
4. Stock control, deliveries & logistics planning
5. Ferry coordination and guest communication
6. Island systems monitoring (solar, water, waste)
7. Emergency response and after-hours responsibility when guests are present
8. One partner will naturally take a lead management role, with the other supporting across housekeeping, guest services and operations.
What you'll be doing
1. Conducting regular patrols and inspections of the island's landscapes, facilities, and infrastructure to identify and resolve any maintenance or safety issues.
2. Liaising with guests to address any inquiries or concerns in a timely and professional manner
3. Implementing sustainable practices to preserve the island's natural environments, such as waste management, resource conservation, and wildlife protection
4. Performing minor repairs and maintenance tasks to keep the island's facilities and amenities in pristine condition
5. Assisting with the coordination of island activities, events, and transportation and procurement logistics as needed
6. Ensuring strict compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations
7. Cleaning duties are part of the role with island and cottage turn arounds. No daily housekeeping duties, but general areas like the Sunset Lounge, Amenities and Acitivities hut is cleaned every day.
What we're looking for
1. Proven minimum 3 years experience in:
2. Island, remote, lodge, farm-stay or eco-tourism operations
3. Strong practical skills (maintenance, problem-solving, organisation)
4. Confident guest communication
5. Ability to work calmly under pressure during peak periods
6. A genuine intention to stay 12 months+
7. Strong knowledge of environmental management, sustainability practices, and natural resource conservation
8. Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict resolution skills
9. Proficiency in the use of various tools and equipment for maintenance and repair tasks
10. Exceptional customer service orientation and the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
11. A passion for preserving the natural environment and a deep appreciation for the unique island ecosystem
12. A valid driver's license and the ability to operate various vehicles and machinery
13. Valid car and boat licences are required for this position
14. Australian work rights are required or sponsorship will be considered
