The Opportunity
Our Port Kembla Innovation team is looking for Product Evaluation Technologist in our Product, Innovation and Technology team based in Port Kembla. We deliver superior steel products including, COLORBOND, TRUECORE, ZINCALUME and innovative solutions to the Australian building materials market.
In this niche role, you’ll be engaged in a variety of hands-on problem solving and technical activities with high visibility outcomes for BlueScope and our building industry partners. As someone who brings rigor and structure to the task at hand, you’ll be a self-directed thinker who is able to navigate complexity and get things done. You’ll work closely with subject matter experts to investigate the performance of steel products and steel building systems when applied across the building and construction industry. You will assemble the evidence base for technical advice and information that will be utilised in the representation of our products in industry regulations and standards as well as to inform our industry partners on the best practice performance of the wide range of steel building products we make, including roofing, framing and wall cladding.

What Will You Do?
Joining a Well-established Collaborative Team, Enjoy Being Involved In a Range Of High Impact Short Term Priorities And Strategic Long-term Opportunities. You’ll Be Involved In
* product development: you’ll develop solutions from ideation to prototyping and certification to create compliance pathways and technical advice for the application of new and existing building products.
* analysis: you will identify and quantify risks and issues, and work to resolve these and provide improvement or insights into steel product application opportunities
* collaboration and support: work with customer and market-facing functions assembling and providing expert advice in the fields of steel product application and building system performance across the building industry
* innovation and change: be a subject matter expert across steel product application technologies nationally and identify strategic opportunities for the domestic market
* product planning: you will stay up to date on the emerging compliance and building performance requirements of the Australian construction industry
More About You
Coming from a Materials Science, Building Product Testing, Building Science consultancy or similar profession, you will bring your technical ability, problem solving skills and your highly consultative nature to the role. You will also have:
* a qualification in Engineering, Science, Construction or extensive experience working in a similar field
* practical knowledge of building materials, installation practices, compliance and product requirements within the building sector
* a commercial acumen and the ability to translate technical information into business outcomes
* strong relationship-building skills and the ability to connect with stakeholders at all levels.
We welcome individuals that are interesting in exploring building system performance and building science or are familiar with assembling performance solutions to the National Construction Code. However, this isn’t necessary as it is your industry experience and highly consultative nature that is desirable.
