Join the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) as a Senior or Mental Health Clinician delivering evidence‐based counselling and wellbeing services across remote Far North Queensland.

Description

The Far North Mental Health and Wellbeing Service offers free counselling and support to people living and working in rural and remote areas. In this role you will provide client‐centred care, improving the wellbeing of community members through the delivery of psychological therapies to those with mild to moderate mental health needs. You will work with people from diverse cultures, tailoring care to their specific needs.

Qualifications

* Qualification in Psychology, Social Work (Accredited with AASW), Occupational Therapy or Mental Health Nursing (suitable for Mental Health credentialing)
* Registration with AHPRA or membership of the AASW
* Postgraduate experience as a clinician with a minimum of three years in a relevant clinical field (Seniors greater than five years)
* Demonstrated experience in brief interventions and therapeutic counselling across the lifespan
* Respectful understanding of cultural diversity, including traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander views of social and emotional wellbeing

Roles

FIFO – Far North Communities

This full‐time role is based in Cairns, with fly‐in, fly‐out (FIFO) travel to Far North Communities. You will work Monday‐Thursday or Tuesday‐Friday, and every second week you will have an admin day at the RFDS Cairns Base. You will stay overnight in communities (up to 3 nights per week), where accommodation, a vehicle and daily allowances are provided.

FIFO – Western Clinics

The Far North Mental Health team invites an experienced, autonomous clinician to join the RFDS Primary Health Care team on the FIFO Western Clinic run. You will accompany the PHC team Monday‐Friday (with a regular rostered day off on Tuesday or Friday). Travel may require occasional overnight stays in the community (average one night per fortnight). This permanent, full‐time opportunity offers autonomy within a high‐performing, multidisciplinary PHC team based in Cairns.

Key Responsibilities

* Work with the community to deliver and develop culturally appropriate, holistic services
* As the clinician in the community, take responsibility for intake, triage, assessment and ongoing treatment of any clients referred to the program
* Provide a range of evidence‐based clinical interventions
* Undertake complex, holistic clinical assessments
* Deliver ongoing psychological therapies and counselling
* Conduct case reviews
* Collaborate with other service providers supporting inter‐agency networks

Requirements

* Current, unrestricted Australian driver's licence
* Certified copies of qualifications/registrations required before appointment
* Evidence of immunity or vaccination against vaccine‐preventable diseases
* Completion of RFDS and QH credentialing process
* May be required to obtain an ASIC licence and undergo drug and alcohol testing
* Non‐AHPRA registered professionals must obtain a blue card and undergo a criminal history check during the recruitment process
