The Business Development Officer is a 2 year contracted position that will play a key role in identifying, developing, and implementing business opportunities that support the economic growth and self-determination of the Dubbo Local Aboriginal Land Council and its members.
This position will work closely with the CEO, Board, and community stakeholders to drive sustainable projects and partnerships that benefit the local Aboriginal community based on the Community Land Business Plan.
The successful person will be expected to be able to identify and leverage key strategic economic opportunities to ensure Dubbo Local Aboriginal Land Council and its members can access and fully participate in these. These include developing strategies to leverage their assets such as land holdings and engaging in opportunities such as those presented through the energy transition.
Key Responsibilities:
● Identify and assess new business opportunities, partnerships, and funding sources.
● Develop business cases, proposals, and feasibility studies for potential projects.
● Build and maintain relationships with local businesses, government agencies, and community organisations.
● Support land acquisition, leasing, and asset management activities in line with community priorities and legal requirements.
● Support the implementation and management of existing and new business ventures.
● Monitor and report on project progress, outcomes, and financial performance.
● Ensure all business activities align with DLALC's strategic plan and cultural values.
● Assist with grant applications and reporting requirements.
● Promote economic participation and employment opportunities for Aboriginal people in the region.
Required
● Demonstrated experience in economic and business development and project management.
● Desirable experience in land management and commercialisation development.
● Strong understanding of Aboriginal culture, community priorities, and the challenges facing Aboriginal people in regional NSW.
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
● Proven ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
Tertiary qualification in Business, Commerce, Economic Development, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Relevant tertiary qualifications for a Business Development Officer may include:
● Bachelor of Business, Commerce, or Business Administration
● Bachelor of Economics or Economic Development
● Bachelor of Community Development or Social Science (with relevant major)
● Bachelor of Indigenous Studies (with a business or economic focus)
● Master of Business Administration (MBA) or Master of Commerce
● Graduate Certificate in Economic Development or Project Management
● Diploma of Business or Certificate IV in Small Business Management

Contract length: 24 months
Pay: $100,000.00 – $125,000.00 per year
