Technology Portfolio Manager – Data, Digital and Applications Projects
Executive Level 2

Position overview
This role is about making a meaningful difference to services Australians rely on every day.
You won't just provide oversight, you'll help shape the digital foundations that enable Australia's most trusted public information services. Working closely with passionate people across technology, science, and business teams, your contribution will support outcomes that truly matter to the community.

The work you lead will help deliver:

• clearer, more accessible weather and climate insights

• better digital experiences for government, industry, and the public

• stronger, more reliable applications that continue to evolve over time

• smarter, more efficient ways of working through improved data and systems

Through your leadership, you'll help build a more connected, resilient, and future ready Bureau — one that supports informed decisions, safety, and sustainability across Australia.
You will work in an organisation and Program that truly values work life balance where flexible working is available.

Role responsibilities
In this role, you'll lead a portfolio of data, digital and application initiatives, working with others across the Bureau to build technology that supports its core capabilities and broader mission.

Your responsibilities will include:
1. Leading a portfolio of initiatives, helping modernise and strengthen the Bureau's technology environment.

2. Guiding strategic planning and prioritisation, ensuring investment decisions align with organisational priorities and deliver meaningful, measurable outcomes.

3. Supporting effective delivery across time, cost, quality, people, and risk, using established governance approaches (PRINCE2), alongside Agile, ITIL, and change management practices.

4. Providing inclusive leadership across delivery and change, supporting teams through readiness, deployment, transition to operations, and post implementation review.

5. Contributing to the ongoing uplift of delivery capability, including frameworks, tools, standards, and the use of insights to inform continuous improvement.

6. Leading and supporting a blended workforce of APS employees, contractors, and vendor partners, fostering collaboration and sustainable ways of working.

7. Building strong, trusted relationships with stakeholders, acting as a key point of connection to ensure shared understanding, alignment, and high quality service outcomes.

8. Overseeing the procurement of technology services and capabilities, ensuring solutions are fit for purpose and supported for ongoing operation.

9. Promoting a safe and healthy workplace, taking reasonable care for your own wellbeing and that of colleagues, contractors, and visitors.

10. Demonstrating a commitment to APS Values, Employment Principles, the Code of Conduct, and the Bureau's Social Justice Strategy.
