About the role
As the Senior Rail Infrastructure Specialist - Signalling, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and reliable operation of V/Line's signalling infrastructure. Reporting directly to the Maintenance Engineering Manager, and acting as a subject matter expert, you will provide technical leadership and guidance to frontline teams, ensuring maintenance standards are upheld and continuous improvement initiatives are implemented.
What you will do
Support complex fault diagnosis and recovery on active signalling systems, guiding supervisors and technicians in the field.
Investigate failures and trends, convert findings into clear reliability improvements and preventive actions.
Mentor & upskill signalling supervisors/technicians; set standards and embed best practice.
Define scopes, estimates and acceptance criteria for renewals/works programs.
Oversee commissioning & integration of new/renewed assets into live operations.
Maintain procedures, work instructions and maintenance manuals to current engineering standards.
Monitor inspection outcomes & performance data; act early on emerging risks.
Your first 6 months:
* Update and author key documents (procedures, work instructions, etc.) for new / existing assets and ensure version control and configuration baselines are captured.
* Close out high- and medium‐impact investigations with corrective actions implemented.
* Confirm critical spares, BOMs, and specific documents and drawings for existing assets and set minimum requirements.
* Lead one commissioning through to smooth, safe handover.
About you
Our ideal candidate will have
* Diploma of Railway Signalling or Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical/Electronic/Computer Systems).
* Significant experience in signalling maintenance/operations (faulting, diagnostics, and commissioning).
* Working knowledge of interlocking and train control (relay and/or computer-based), and level crossings.
* Strong analytical problem solver; able to influence and mentor across teams.
* Familiar with Victorian signalling standards & maintenance practices.
* Track Force Protection Coordinator L3 (or willingness to obtain).
* Experience with asset reliability programs and performance dashboards/analytics highly desirable
* Exposure to renewals/upgrade projects and acceptance into live operations highly desirable
