What We're Looking For:
* Relevant qualifications in Work Health and Safety.
* Proven experience in a similar WHS role, preferably within local government or a similar environment.
* Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, codes of practice and risk management principles.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and engage staff at all levels.
* Demonstrated ability to conduct and lead investigations, audits and training.
About the Role
As the Work Health and Safety Officer, you will be responsible for:
* Driving a proactive and positive safety culture across the organisation.
* Supporting staff in understanding and complying with WHS legislation and regulatory frameworks.
* Leading the continuous improvement of Council's Safety Management Plan.
* Supporting Council to meet its legislative obligations and commitments under its Enforceable Undertaking with the Office of Industrial Relations (Workplace Health and Safety Queensland).
* Conducting risk assessments, audits, inspections and incident investigations, including following up corrective actions.
* Ensuring contractors, subcontractors and volunteers comply with Council's WHS requirements and legislative obligations.
* Delivering training and awareness programs to promote safe work practices.
* Analysing WHS data and trends and preparing reports for senior management.
* Providing expert advice and guidance on Work Health and Safety matters.
