Position Information
Lightning Ridge Central School (LRCS) is in the Western NSW Region. It is 270km from Moree. The school is in an outback opal mining location, which utilises its unique environment as a feature in many of its learning activities and studies. LRCS is vibrant and inclusive with around 350 students. Approximately 54% of students identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. The school operates an Aboriginal Language Nest and endeavours to embrace the local Yuwaalaraay culture and language. The school has excellent facilities, which includes well maintained classrooms in pleasant, green surroundings. The school has a well-equipped library and very high levels of technology to support student learning. The school currently has 80 staff (teaching and non-teaching) and includes additional temporary staff employed through school-based funding to better support the learning needs of all students. Additional resources are allocated to provide tiered support to improved literacy and numeracy outcomes for all students K-12. In addition to the academic pursuits, the school provides a broad range of activities including the performing arts, cultural, leadership and sporting experiences. LRCS is committed to strengthening its partnership with the community. This partnership has a strong focus on raising expectation and promoting lifelong learning. LRCS strives to positively contribute to the district and the school facilities are readily available for community use.
Specific Selection Criteria In addition to the general selection criteria,
1. Approval to teach infants and primary (K-6) with demonstrated capacity and experience in balancing exemplary classroom practice and coordination of the complex leadership and management role of an Assistant Principal.
2. Demonstrated capacity to build authentic connections and collaboration with students, staff, parents, and the community to strengthen educational partnerships that improve student outcomes.
3. Demonstrated ability to lead, model and implement evidence-based and data-driven practices using the new syllabuses, with a focus on high expectations to ensure the continuous improvements of outcomes in literacy and numeracy for all students.
4. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with the executive team to effectively lead a school-wide culture focused on high performance, continuous improvement, and data-informed decision-making.
General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department\'s Aboriginal education policy
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
