As Australia's largest local government, Council offers meaningful work with real impact, strong leadership pathways and long‐term career stability.

Why Join Compliance and Regulatory Services?

Our Compliance and Regulatory Services Branch is on the frontline of protecting public health, safety and amenity. We work across environmental health, built environment, animal management, the natural environment and more. The work is diverse, challenging and highly visible - and you'll be supported by experienced professionals who are passionate about making a difference for Brisbane communities.

About the Opportunity

This is an opportunity to step into a senior leadership role where your expertise in Environmental Health will directly influence city‐wide outcomes.

As Environmental Health Team Leader, you will lead an established and capable cohort of Environmental Health professionals, supporting up to 20 direct and indirect staff. You'll balance strategic oversight with operational leadership, guiding how regulatory and compliance services are delivered across Brisbane.

You'll have the scope to shape how the team works - driving improvement, innovation and professional development - while being trusted to make sound, evidence‐based decisions in complex regulatory environments.

In this role, you will:

* lead and support a high‐performing Environmental Health team to deliver consistent, high‐quality regulatory outcomes
* set clear direction, priorities and expectations while empowering staff to perform at their best
* analyse emerging environmental health trends and risks and influence effective responses
* improve systems, processes and practices to support efficiency, consistency and positive customer outcomes
* build strong, collaborative relationships with communities, businesses and government stakeholders
* champion education, prevention and proactive regulation to support public health and safety
* create an environment where innovation, problem solving and continuous learning are encouraged

What You'll Bring

* You're a confident, people‐focused leader who enjoys tackling complex issues and mentoring professionals.
* You bring sound judgement, adaptability and a commitment to public service.

You'll succeed in this role if you have:

* proven leadership experience aligned with Council's Leadership Blueprint, with the ability to deliver performance excellence and a values‐driven culture
* strong knowledge of environmental health regulatory frameworks, particularly within Queensland local government (or the ability to rapidly develop this knowledge)
* demonstrated experience in research, analysis and complex problem‐solving in a regulatory environment
* a track record of leading operational Environmental Health services and driving performance through clear expectations and accountability

Qualifications & Requirements

* A tertiary qualification in Environmental Health from an accredited course.
* A current valid C‐Class driver licence.

What's In It for You

* lead meaningful work that directly improves public health and community wellbeing
* influence how Environmental Health services are delivered across Brisbane
* work with experienced professionals in a supportive, values‐driven organisation
* enjoy stable employment, leadership development opportunities and career progression

Other benefits of working for Council include

* flexible working hours, and flexible arrangements
* free gym and wellness centre
* award‐winning superannuation fund
* generous leave provisions
* competitive salary

Please note that this role requires a Criminal History Check and a pre‐employment medical assessment to assess the ability to perform the genuine occupational requirements of the role. The role participates in an on‐call roster (there is an on‐call allowance when applicable).
