What You'll Be Doing

The Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital provides general and specialist health care to the public and the community including 24-hour emergency care services, acute/chronic general medicine, perioperative services, day procedure surgery and surgical hand. The Hospital is a quaternary referral centre for eye health conditions and disorders, providing eye emergency care and the delivery of extended diagnostic capabilities and treatments for complex eye conditions requiring ophthalmic care management. Additionally, SSEH's Hand Unit is a tertiary referral centre for hand trauma, abnormalities and diseases of the hand.
Encompassing SSEH is a 25-bed inpatient ward specialising in general acute/chronic medicine with 6 beds for patients requiring cardiac monitoring. This ward provides care management for patients with acute cardiorespiratory, neurology, rheumatology, renal and gastroenterology health disorders. The ward cares for patients with Drug and Alcohol issues, who are collaboratively cared for by the Drug and Alcohol team.
As a CNC in SESLHD you will play a pivotal role to SSEH General Medicine in clinical service and consultancy, clinical leadership, research, education and clinical services planning and management. In this position you take a leadership role in providing clinical advice and support to patients, nursing staff and other health professionals across wards and units of SSEH. Such leadership role is demonstrated through proactive participation in multidisciplinary mortality and morbidity and/or patient case review meetings.
The CNC coordinates the management and response for Clinical Emergency Response Systems including the management of deteriorating patients. The position oversees the collection, collation, interpretation, and reporting of CERS data at a local and District level. This includes undertaking patient case reviews in collaboration with appropriate clinicians. Additionally, overall coordination and management of CERS includes the provision, monitoring, and evaluation of CERS related education and training.
The CNC must have an extended level of clinical knowledge, skills, and judgement in the care delivery of acute/chronic general medical patients. As a clinical expert the CNC has a responsibility to ensure best practice, act as a resource person and initiate and participate in patient safety programs including CERS, Sepsis Pathway, Delirium, End of Life, Advance Care Directives, and patient/family carer activated escalated systems for clinical deterioration.

Selection Criteria
* Registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse and current NSW Driver's License and willingness to travel as required in role.
* Having at least 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience, with at least 3 years full time equivalent experience in the specialty field. In addition, must have approved postgraduate nursing/midwifery qualifications relevant to the field in which he/she is appointed, or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by the public hospital or public health organisation. An employer may also require a higher qualification in the specialist nursing field where such a qualification is considered essential for the performance of the individual position.
* Demonstrated ability to apply clinical expertise in a consultant role and the ability to work independently.
* Proven clinical leadership skills and an ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in nursing practice.
* Demonstrated evidence of the use of critical thinking as it relates to the delivery of advanced evidenced based nursing care.
* Demonstrated experience in leading and implementing change, and developing direction in clinical practice by initiation, utilisation, review and translation of evidence-based research into practice, within a person-centred framework.
* Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, advanced computer skills and use of software programs to analyse data and produce reports.
* Demonstrated ability to contribute to strategic and clinical service planning.
