About us

About the role
The Inner City Local Court team consists of approximately 22 solicitors that service Central, Downing Centre, Manly, Newtown and Waverley Local Courts as well as covering District Court Appeals for these courts and Supreme Court Bail applications state-wide.

The Aboriginal Women on Remand Pilot (AWRP) will expand this team with the addition of an Aboriginal Field Officer, Administration Support Officer and Senior Solicitor. The aim of the pilot is to provide support and representation to Aboriginal Women on remand who are seeking release through a Supreme Court Bail application.

The primary purpose of the role is to:

2. Assist solicitors and administrative staff to support clients through their Supreme Court Bail matter by linking them up with support services such as housing and rehabilitation services.
3. Assist Solicitors to engage with community and family members for Supreme Court Bail clients.
Please Note: Legal Aid NSW considers that being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational qualification under s 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
Applicants for this role must satisfy the Aboriginality criteria. Aboriginality is defined by decent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and being accepted in the community as such. In the pre-screening questions you will need to provide information on how you satisfy the Aboriginality criteria.
