Australian Medical Association South Australia The Australian Medical Association (South Australia) is an influential voice on health matters for doctors, trainee doctors and the community in South Australia. AMA SA brings doctors of all specialties together to work towards better outcomes for patients and promotes ethics, standards and wellbeing in the medical profession. AMA SA also advocates for its members in reviewing health policy, legislation, regulations and guidelines. It monitors performance in the state’s health system and, when necessary, challenges governments to improve outcomes for patients, doctors and trainees. It also contributes expert medical commentary to the health policy debate. Following the recent resignation of the incumbent CEO, the organisation is seeking an accomplished professional who can build on current foundations of the organisation’s growth strategy. Reporting to the Board which comprises both medical and independent members, and working closely with the AMA SA President and Chair of the Executive Board, the CEO has responsibilities including:
providing strategic leadership and advice to the Board, the President, Council, committees and working groups, and the staff including execution of the strategic plan;
providing solid and proven financial and risk management and ensuring sound compliance and governance;
representing the organisation and its interests on committees and in forums at state and national levels;
maintaining excellent relationships with members and with stakeholders in government, health and community organisations and corporate partners, along with Officers and Elected Members of the other AMA organisations interstate;
applying an understanding of the complexities of the medical profession and its place in the health sector to managing relationships with members, colleagues and partners;
promoting the organisation’s advocacy activities;
leading a strong workplace culture in which a contemporary framework for all aspects of people and culture supports the objectives of AMA SA.
Qualifications / Requirements
Applications are encouraged from appropriately qualified candidates able to demonstrate proven management capability, supreme stakeholder relationship, partnership building and advocacy skills, an understanding of corporate and organisational governance requirements, sound judgement, credibility, a collaborative working style and a genuine commitment to and empathy for the mission of this important organisation. High level financial and political acumen are essential qualities sought and a familiarity with the healthcare environment in which the AMA operates will be a definite advantage.
