About the team & role:
We're looking for a Lead Product Designer to join the team behind the Xero Accounting App (XAA) – our flagship mobile experience that helps small business owners stay on top of their finances, wherever they are. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of mobile accounting at Xero, partnering with cross-functional leaders across design, product, and engineering to drive high-quality outcomes.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You’ll lead design for key initiatives, mentor designers across the mobile portfolio, and help us continually raise the bar for quality, usability, and craft. Please note this opportunity is a 12-month fixed-term contract due to parental leave.
What you'll do
1. Partner closely with Design, Product, and Development leaders to set the design vision and direction for Xero’s native mobile experiences
2. Partner with Design Research and Product colleagues to identify research opportunities, plan and undertake research and testing
3. Promote the value of design and collaborative practice across spheres of influence and participation
4. Present and communicate design work to a range of different audiences
5. Challenge current solutions by exploring ideal future concepts and identifying new interaction solutions and patterns that meet customer needs more effectively
6. Create prototypes to tangibly demonstrate proposed concepts or solutions
7. Influence, challenge, and support designers within your product area to deliver high-quality product experiences
8. Develop phased design solutions that bridge the gap between future states and current patterns, XUI Mobile design system, iOS, iPadOS, Android, and other relevant constraints and considerations
9. Develop detailed interactions and interfaces that are smart and contextually relevant
10. Create effective handover materials that clearly communicate how the design should look and behave throughout interaction flows and journeys (e.g., User flow diagrams, design specifications, interaction specifications)
What you'll bring with you
1. Proven experience designing native mobile experiences across iOS and Android
2. Experience innovating and delivering complex design experiences at scale
3. Ability to solve customer problems through design thinking and execution
4. A portfolio demonstrating high-quality design outcomes that contribute to user experience and business value
5. Mastery of the entire design process, from uncovering customer needs and pain points to executing elegant interfaces
6. Excellent communication skills
