This engineering services contract is between Worley and our customer, covering baseload engineering work at their Portland Smelter. The scope includes engineering support for concept studies, feasibility studies, FEED, and detailed design of projects within the facility’s capital expenditure plan as well as maintenance and reliability programs.
As a Lead / Senior Electrical Engineer with Worley, you will work closely with our existing team to deliver projects for our clients while continuing to develop your skills and experience.
This role is based at the Portland Aluminium Smelter; the role requires the candidate to be based at the site office with self-travel to site.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Deliver discipline-specific electrical engineering services that meet Worley, client, and regulatory requirements from concept through to as-built, ensuring safe, sustainable, and fit-for-purpose solutions.
- Undertake and verify engineering design deliverables, ensuring compliance with Worley checking procedures and participating in reviews, HAZIDs/HAZOPs, and safety-in-design workshops.
- Prepare and review engineering estimates, calculations, drawings, specifications, and schedules; ensure clarity of scope, assumptions, resources, and deliverables.
- Communicate effectively with project stakeholders and establish strong relationships with clients, contractors, and Worley personnel.
- Provide technical direction, control, and supervision on projects; ensure technical integrity, quality, and delivery of discipline-specific design within budget and schedule.
- Manage workload, resources, and deliverables for the discipline team, providing mentoring, feedback, and support for career development.
- Proactively identify issues and develop practical and innovative solutions, considering safety hazards and risks across the asset lifecycle.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of Worley engineering systems, processes, practices, and procedures.
About You
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (Power) with professional registration in Victoria (or ability to obtain).
- Proven technical experience in the Refinery/Mining or similar industry, including leading projects and brownfield electrical systems modifications.
- Robust capability across electrical design, including HV/LV systems, protection schemes, calculations, layouts, instrumentation interfaces, and commissioning.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, lead teams, and deliver quality outcomes across all phases of engineering projects.
- Sound knowledge of Australian electrical standards, with Hazardous Area Accreditation and/or Functional Safety TUV Certification highly regarded.
