Primary objective
As an on-site leader and member of the hub Branch Laboratory Group work team, positively contribute to the provision of
a timely, efficient, cost effective and high-quality service to the Department of Health and public of the Northern Territory
Context statement
Operational needs require the recruitment of an individual with in-depth knowledge/skills in Clinical Haematology,
Biochemistry, Transfusion Medicine and Microbiology to lead the Katherine team, performing bench duties and participating
in an on-call roster as required. The advertised vacancy maps to CF 7 in the Northern Territory Public Sector Capability

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Be an active member of the HUB Branch Laboratory Group leadership team, providing multi-disciplinary training and
competency assessments to Territory Pathology staff, thinking laterally when initiating and developing team goals,
strategies and work plans, making effective use of the individual and team capabilities while also considering the
ramifications of issues and the longer-term impact on the work team
1. Empower staff by delegating tasks and agreeing on clear performance standards. Provide constructive and regular
feedback to the team, dealing with underperformance promptly and proactively, offering assistance to team members,
stakeholders, and patients, to foster mutually beneficial relationships and outcomes. Seek guidance and advice when
required
1. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Possession of a degree in Medical Laboratory Science, or equivalent, is mandatory. Possession of a Fellowship, PhD, or
other higher qualification is desirable.
2. Demonstrated minimum of five years clinical work experience in a multi-disciplinary laboratory. A recent period of work
experience with duties, accountabilities and responsibilities at a level commensurate with this position.

duties and responsibilities of the position,
1. Demonstrated ability to act proactively, professionally and with integrity at all times as an effective local team leader,
valuing expert knowledge to determine best practice and innovative alternatives to continuously improve service
delivery. Demonstrated strong commitment to personal development, acknowledging mistakes and learning from them.
