Overview
In this role you will provide expert legal advice on public law issues, manage litigation and claims against ASIC, and support senior internal stakeholders.
You will also prepare reports, monitor regulatory changes, and supervise junior team members to ensure high-quality outputs.
Responsibilities
Deliver expert legal advice and tactical guidance related to responding to legal and other claims against ASIC, its members, and staff, including claims in negligence, defamation, and breach of statutory duties.
Advise on public law issues relevant to ASIC's operations, including delegations, decision-making, official duties, Remuneration Tribunal issues, conflicts of interest, public interest disclosures, and procedural fairness.
Prepare internal reports and briefings concerning key matters and projects.
Provide sound, practical, and timely legal advice on matters affecting ASIC's obligations as a public regulatory body.
Monitor the regulatory landscape to analyse regulatory reforms, legislative changes, and trends.
Mentor, guide, and supervise other team members to ensure high-quality outcomes.
Undertake additional responsibilities or tasks as required.

Technical Requirements & Certifications
Hold legal qualifications and be eligible for an Unrestricted Legal Practicing Certificate in a State or Territory of Australia.
Minimum 6+ years post-admission experience (PAE) as a lawyer, with relevant expertise in government, in-house, or law firm settings.
Demonstrated understanding of the law, including the PGPA Act, ASIC Act, Public Interest Disclosure Act, and other relevant legislation and policies.
Experience in governance and compliance is highly desirable.
