ABOUT THE POSITION: Providing technical support across all MV sites as required, adapting to different site requirements and ensuring consistent quality of technical support regardless of venue location. The position is responsible for the safe, effective and skilful delivery of all aspects of exhibition and event technical set up, operation and bump out, including handling audio-visual equipment, lighting, interactive technology and other technical components. The role also assists MV with the installation and maintenance of exhibitions and gallery spaces, requiring good mechanical aptitude and the ability to make minor repairs to all aspects of gallery environments. Some of the key duties include: The duties of the position will vary depending on the skills of the applicants and the requirements of the work/work group. Applicants for Technical Services Assistant positions should have experience in some of the following areas, or should be prepared to be trained and deemed competent in these areas: Program and operate lighting systems within gallery spaces, including working with Senior Technicians on plotting and lighting design. Assist with bump in, bump out and set up of technical and staging equipment for events and exhibitions, including staging, lighting, audio, visual and projection systems, streaming, cameras and bespoke interactives. Set up and operate technical equipment in galleries, outdoor spaces, theatres, theatrette and conference venues across all MV venues. Prepare and set up showcases, including moving, placing, levelling, cleaning and applying seals; install and deinstall showcase furniture; and locate and install/deinstall exhibition dressing. Complete minor installation, deinstallation and changeover projects, using experience to problem solve. Assemble and install/deinstall exhibition furniture, structures and displays, and provide onsite leadership to external contractors. Manage and maintain storage locations and back-of-house spaces. Supervise contractors performing works at MV venues and act as a spotter for Elevated Work Platform use. Transport or assist with the receipt and dispatch of exhibition- and event-related deliveries, including loading and unloading equipment between venues and transport vehicles. Manage and maintain tools, equipment and site conditions, including electrical safety testing such as test and tag. Ensure risks are controlled and incidents are reported appropriately to supervisory staff, contributing to a safe working environment. Carry out administrative tasks in line with departmental procedures, including record keeping, time keeping, maintaining documents, stock and materials levels, and documentation and reporting using the Office 365 suite. Comply with Museums Victoria policies and procedures, and with relevant legislation and regulations. The successful applicant will have: Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in event lighting, including programming and operating lighting systems within a gallery space; Vectorworks or similar software knowledge is essential. Demonstrated experience in installing and deinstalling interactives, showcases and lighting fixtures in a museum or gallery environment. Demonstrated experience in conducting minor repairs, including patching and assigning fixtures in a museum or gallery environment. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and to influence and communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including curators, conservators, technicians, exhibitions and event staff, performers and clients, with a focus on excellent customer service. Proficiency in the use of Elevated Work Platforms and a range of hand and power tools. Demonstrated skills and experience in a workshop environment and the application of those skills in a public environment. Demonstrated ability to work independently and complete tasks in a timely and effective manner, with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Demonstrated understanding of OH&S and site safety practices, including manual handling, risk assessment and risk control. OTHER INFORMATION This role is a casual position. The salary on offer is VPS2.2 base of grade - $44.18 including casual loading. The successful incumbent is required to undergo, and for new employees meet the cost of, a National Police Records Check and Working With Childrens Check. HOW TO APPLY?
