Are you an environmental scientist or Planner looking to expand your experience and work for an ethical and professional company in one of Australia’s fastest growing regional locations?

GeoLINK needs a full time Environmental Scientist or Planner to deliver a wide range of environmental auditing, environmental assessment, environmental management projects. This role is expected to be primarily office-based and will play an integral role in providing practical, sustainable and cost-effective solutions to the private sector and government clients. Consideration may also be given to the right applicant wishing to fulfil the role in a negotiated part-time capacity.

We provide a range of services to our clients including planning and environmental assessment, ecology, bushfire, civil and environmental engineering, auditing and landscape architecture.

About the role

We are looking for a suitably qualified, experienced and motivated Environmental Scientist or Planner to join our team of professionals in our Armidale office on a full‑time, permanent appointment. We have an experienced and well‑respected Environmental Science and Engineering / Planning team, and we are looking to bolster our Environmental Scientist and Planning capacity across GeoLINK, specifically in the environmental auditing and impact assessment space.

The role will involve working with a team of experienced environmental scientists, ecologists, planners and engineers in the management and delivery of a wide range of environmental and planning projects which may include:

- Assist the lead environmental auditor with document review and desktop assessment of various approved developments for compliance against development approvals.
- Provision of accurate research and environmental advice for a variety of multi‑disciplinary projects.
- Completing environmental assessment projects such as review of environmental factors, environmental impact assessment (SEEs, EISs (DD and assisting senior planners with SSD projects) and environmental management plans, applying knowledge of environmental legislation, current industry standards, and approval processes – including proposal preparation, budget monitoring, work planning and client liaison.
- Conducting site inspections and desktop assessments for general environmental site assessments.
- Provision of specific technical input into studies and projects as appropriate.
- Preparation of environmental impact assessments from technical written reports to support project outcomes.
- Reviewing scientific results, specialist reports and interpreting environmental legislation as required.
- Client and regulator liaison to achieve project objectives.

Applicants must address the following selection criteria in their application

Essential criteria:

- Tertiary qualifications in environmental management, environmental science, environmental / Town Planning or related discipline, from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated 2-5 years (or more) relevant experience, preference to be given to those with consulting experience.
- Demonstrated experience in working on NSW planning application assessments (EIS, SEE, REFs, etc.).
- General understanding of the principles and practices of environmental assessment, environmental management and environmental auditing in NSW i.e.: working knowledge of the EP&A; Act.
- Experience in writing clear, concise, accurate reports on technical matters.
- Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with multi‑disciplinary teams with various internal and external stakeholders.
- Good knowledge of relevant state and commonwealth legislation in theory and application.
- Ability to navigate computer systems and converse in basic office software including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams.
- High level of self‑motivation, self‑discipline, initiative and demonstrated ability to manage the position’s responsibility and perform complex tasks and manage projects with minimal supervision.
- Experience in auditing or performing operational compliance assessments.
- Experience in the construction industry.
- Experience in project management.
- Membership of a relevant and accredited professional association.
- Continuing technical and commercial education including post graduate studies.
- Good track record of winning and retaining projects/clients.
- Thorough understanding of WH&S; requirements and obligations.
- Diverse knowledge of a range of environmental disciplines, including but not limited to water quality, soils and contaminated site assessment, archaeological, surface and groundwater, ecological, bushfire and noise assessments.
- Understanding project management practices and processes with demonstrated experience in managing and working within project scope.
