Indigenous Liaison Officer – Full Time (Fixed Term)

Overview

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and passionate applicants for the position of Indigenous Liaison Officer. This is a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the wellbeing, engagement and success of Indigenous students across Junior, Middle and Senior School. Working as a key member of the Indigenous Wellbeing Team, the successful applicant will build strong relationships with students, families and communities, while supporting cultural safety and fostering positive educational pathways. This role offers the chance to work closely with a diverse group of young people, strengthen connections with remote communities and play an important part in shaping a culturally responsive and inclusive school environment.

Key Responsibilities
* Working with the Director of Student Wellbeing in supporting Indigenous students
* Working with Enrolment Officers and Head of Indigenous Education to understand the backgrounds, families and communities of day students and boarding students, as requested, in order to welcome and support these students and families to successfully adjust to life at Haileybury Rendall School
* Representing family, culture and school during important events such as NAIDOC Week across the school
* Conduct phone calls to the family members of day and boarding students to ensure that wellbeing and cultural safety is high, and to ensure information about the School has been received. This may include parent/teacher interviews, online learning advice etc.
* Providing support and advice to Leadership staff across the ELC, Junior, Middle and Senior Schools regarding Indigenous students
* At the request of the Director of Student Wellbeing, work with the Heads of School, Head of Indigenous Education, Director of Boarding or School Counsellors, supporting student wellbeing. This may be contacting families, participating in restorative discussions, conducting home visits, adopting trauma-informed strategies, visiting Boarding, providing academic support in classes.
* Working with the Director of Student Wellbeing and Director of Boarding to provide support during the transition of students returning to school from leave, with a focus on welcome, personal organisation and classroom support, when needed
* Supporting and advising the school on approaches to building the cultural competency of staff and the organisation
* In class support
* Travel to remote Aboriginal communities, representing Haileybury Rendall School to community elders and members, current families, past students and potential families
Requirements
* You must have the legal right to live and work in Australia.
* Current and valid Northern Territory Working With Children Check (OCHRE).
* National Police Check
