The Restorative Practice Support Officer supports young people and staff to build, maintain, and repair safe and respectful relationships. The role focuses on four main areas:
1. Facilitating conflict resolution interventions to reduce risks and support the development of socially appropriate skills for peer dynamics and conflict.
2. Facilitating restorative interventions with young people involved in incidents of violence, disruptive behavior, verbal aggression, or staff assaults.
3. Delivering high-quality Restorative Practice training to Youth Detention Centre staff, supported by ongoing workplace mentoring.
4. Providing expert advice to the CYDC leadership to guide the implementation of Restorative Practices across the Centre.
Specifically, as the Restorative Practice Support Officer, you will:
1. Demonstrate cultural capability and a commitment to developing it to ensure an inclusive culture aligned with the Human Rights Act 2019, supporting departmental programs and community partnerships for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
2. Embed Restorative Practices into the Detention Centre to support building, maintaining, and restoring safe and respectful relationships.
3. Support conflict resolution between young people and staff in collaboration with operational staff, taking leadership and coordination roles in resolving complex conflicts.
4. Facilitate restorative interventions to repair relationships when harm has occurred.
5. Design and deliver activities and programs to build and maintain relationships between young people and staff.
6. Provide targeted mentoring to young people involved in complex conflicts to develop emotional regulation and conflict resolution skills.
7. Facilitate Restorative Practice training for staff, including follow-up coaching and competency assessment.
8. Develop evidence-based training resources in collaboration with Client Services, aligned with trauma-informed principles.
9. Support young people's reintegration and transition to the community by fostering relationships with external stakeholders.
10. Uphold safety and security requirements within a regulated environment.
