We are seeking a highly skilled Data Architect/Modeller to join our Grant Systems and Innovation Section. This role is pivotal in shaping our data strategy, designing and maintaining robust data models, and ensuring our information architecture supports scalable, efficient, and secure solutions.
The successful candidate will not only define and implement data structures but also act as a bridge between technical teams and business stakeholders translating complex requirements into actionable designs. As an advocate for best practices in data governance and agile delivery, you will play a key role in enabling data-driven decision-making and sustainable system development.

The Grant Systems and Innovation Section is seeking an experienced Data Architect to design and implement the department’s grant data infrastructure. This role will create a blueprint for how grant data is stored, organised, integrated, and related, ensuring scalability, security, and alignment with business goals.
This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of grant data management within the department. Your work will directly contribute to improving data quality, enabling better decision-making, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Key responsibilities will include:
* Design and Modelling: Lead, develop, and maintain blueprints and detailed models for data storage systems, including databases, data warehouses, and data lakes.
* Data Governance: Establish policies and procedures for data collection, usage, security, and compliance to maintain data quality and integrity.
* Collaboration: Work closely with data analysts and stakeholders to implement, optimise data infrastructure, and mentoring others in adopting best practices and sustaining architectural standards.
* System Optimisation: Assess current data systems and design future architectures to improve operational efficiency, scalability, and performance.
* Business Alignment: Translate complex business requirements into effective technical solutions for data management and access.
* Data Security: Ensure secure storage and access of data in compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
* Leadership: Lead data functions for grants systems, architecture, management, stewardship, analytics, access control, and collaboration to deliver secure, high quality, reusable data that improves departmental outcomes.
Eligibility
To be eligible for employment with the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, applicants must be an Australian citizen at the time an offer of employment is made.
An applicant’s suitability for employment with Health will also be assessed through a variety of pre-employment check processes, such as:
○ Satisfactory completion of a criminal history check, and where relevant, a Working with Children and Vulnerable People Check,
○ Completion of a medical declaration and pre-employment medical (where required),
○ Obtaining and maintaining a security clearance at the required level.
For this role applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance or hold a current security clearance at an appropriate level.
