The Institute for Communication in Health Care (ICH)
Based at one of Australia's leading research-intensive universities, the ICH addresses mounting evidence that ineffective communication at all levels of the healthcare system leads to poor patient outcomes, including serious illness and death, and contributes to clinician dissatisfaction.
The Institute aims to translate cutting-edge communication research into best practice for safe and compassionate health care. It is located in the College of Arts and Social Sciences, within the Research School of Humanities and the Arts. It also has strong links with the ANU School of Medicine and Psychology and with organisations in the healthcare sector in in NSW and the ACT, across Australia, and internationally.
Recognising the increasing linguistic and cultural diversity of healthcare consumers and clinicians, ICH encourages an innovative interprofessional approach.
Building on extensive collaborations between healthcare professionals and communication experts from around the world, ICH fosters innovative interdisciplinary research, collaborative projects and international events.
